Zerkal on Nord Stream 2: Only four countries not support us

Only four countries (Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and Belgium) do not support Ukraine’s position against the construction of Nord Stream 2.

Ukrainian Deputy Foreign Minister Olena Zerkal said this on the air of TV Channel 5, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

"There are only four countries that do not support us. These four countries are interested in the construction of Nord Stream 2, as they will obtain benefit from its functioning. These countries are Germany, Austria, the Netherlands and Belgium," she said.

The deputy foreign minister added that the construction of Nord Stream 2 was not profitable for other countries.

"All other countries understand that the construction of this gas pipeline will in fact change the gas market in the European Union, and Germany will dominate this market," Zerkal noted.

As known, Nord Stream 2 is a project on the construction of a gas pipeline from Russia to Germany, bypassing Ukraine across the Baltic Sea. Gazprom owns 51% of shares. Russia wants to build two lines of the gas pipeline (up to 55 billion cubic meters a year). The Baltic States, Poland, Ukraine, as well as the United States, actively oppose the project. In particular, on April 5, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine called on the world not to support the construction of Russia’s Nord Stream 2.
