Government allocates UAH 253 mln for construction of runway at Odesa airport

At a meeting on July 18, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has approved allocation of UAH 253 million (about USD 9.65 million) for the construction of a runway at the Odesa International Airport.

"As we promised, the Infrastructure Ministry initiated the allocation of additional funds for the works at the Odesa airport. This May, I inspected the progress of the runway construction. I believe that the renovated airport will turn Odesa into a southern hub in 2019. The air travel has been growing by almost 30% a year for the third year in a row. This growth requires the modernization of airports, and we make every effort in this area," Infrastructure Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Omelyan said, the Cabinet’s press service reports.

The construction of a new runway will allow accepting heavier aircraft, including Boeing-767, which would facilitate doubling of the passenger flow.
