Ukraine to bring 80% of technical standards in line with standards of EU by 2020 – Kubiv

Ukraine plans to bring 80% of its technical standards in line with the standards of the European Union by 2020.

First Deputy Prime Minister - Minister for Economic Development and Trade Stepan Kubiv wrote this on his Facebook page.

"We have done much to bring Ukrainian standards in line with the European ones, which now make up almost 65% of all national standards. By 2020, 80% will be harmonized with the EU [standards],” Kubiv wrote.

According to the minister, this will open new trade opportunities for Ukrainian industrial enterprises in the EU market.

"According to estimates, the economic effect from the introduction of new standards increases the efficiency by almost 33% in annual terms,” he stressed.

As reported, Ukraine has adopted a total of 57 technical regulations, of them 53 were elaborated based on the EU legislative acts. Thus, the same quality product requirements as in EU Member States are in effect in 57 sectors of the Ukrainian industry.
