Two more airlines to be established in Ukraine – infrastructure minister

Two new airlines with Ukrainian and international capital will be established in Ukraine.

Ukrainian Infrastructure Minister Volodymyr Omelian said this at a meeting in the European Business Association (EBA), an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"We are close to completing the establishment of two more airlines that will operate in Ukraine. One airline will be international, and another one - with Ukrainian capital. They will start with a small number of aircraft, but they see that the market is developing rapidly and there is great potential," the minister said.

He also says that he is trying to persuade the Government and the Parliament to allocate annually UAH 10 billion for the construction of runways in order to build at least 20 airports in Ukraine in 5 years and grant them to concession.

"The business will build terminals, organize flights, and airport runways must be publicly owned. Their payback is 10 years. These funds will return," Omelian stressed.

As Ukrinform reported, in January-April 2018, the volume of passenger traffic of Ukrainian airlines grew by 15.4% compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
