Ukraine successfully undergoes audit of International Maritime Organization

Ukraine has successfully undergone the audit of the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

"Ukraine has been and will be a maritime power! This is the result of the audit of the Ukrainian maritime industry which was carried out by the IMO audit team on June 9-18. This year, Ukraine has successfully undergone the IMO audit and now occupies its rightful place among the leading maritime powers of the world," State Secretary of the Infrastructure Ministry of Ukraine Andriy Halushchak posted on his Facebook page.

To undergo the IMO audit, Ukraine had to meet a number of criteria and requirements. One of them was the issuance of a seafarer medical certificate of the established type. That is, the medical examinations to confirm a needed health status of a seafarer should be carried out properly by the qualified medical specialists, not by certain specific institutions.

To this end, the Health Ministry of Ukraine established a procedure for defining the medical professionals who are eligible to conduct medical examinations and issue certificates, keep their register and provide it to other parties upon request. In addition, the Inspectorate for Training and Certification of Seafarers approved a single form of medical certificate to work at ships on international voyages.
