Ukraine, Azerbaijan deepen cooperation in energy sector

Ukraine and Azerbaijan are considering a possibility for cooperation in the energy sector.

The implementation of the project on the supply of Azerbaijani natural gas from the Shah Deniz gas field to the countries of Europe within the Southern Gas Corridor (SGC) and the search for mechanisms to attract Ukraine to this project are among promising areas of cooperation.

The Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine reported this on the results of the third meeting of the Ukrainian-Azerbaijani Working Group on Energy held in Baku.

"Ukraine and Azerbaijan will deepen cooperation in the energy sector. Such agreements has been reached on the results of the third meeting of the Ukrainian-Azerbaijani Working Group on Energy, which was held in Baku, the Republic of Azerbaijan, on June 14, 2018," the report reads.

The Ukrainian delegation was headed by Deputy Energy and Coal Industry Minister for European Integration Natalia Boyko.

The participants of the event discussed the issue of cooperation in the oil and gas and electricity sectors.

Given the interest in diversifying routes and sources of energy supplies, the sides noted the need to intensify cooperation and search for possible ways of implementing joint projects.

In addition, the parties discussed the state of implementation of the project on the supply of different grades of oil to Ukrainian refineries and to the countries of Central and Eastern Europe.
