37% of Ukrainians do not have a bank account

37% of adult Ukrainians do not have a bank account, in particular, because of mistrust of financial companies and lack of funds.

Head of Strategy and Reform Department at the National Bank of Ukraine Mykhailo Vidyakin said this during the Financial Inclusion Forum, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"37% of adult Ukrainians do not have a bank account. There are several reasons for this. For example, people in rural areas usually live far away from the banks. Other people say that the banking institutions are too expensive and they do not have money to open and maintain accounts," Vidyakin said.

He also noted that about half of respondents said they mistrusted the banking system or that a family member had already opened a bank account and there was no need to open another one.
