President Poroshenko: Development of port infrastructure is a matter of Ukraine’s national security

The development of port infrastructure is a matter of Ukraine's national security as increase in capabilities of transshipment of agricultural goods strengthens the state's export potential.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko stated this while speaking at the ceremony of launch of the start-up complex of the grain terminal in Odesa region, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Today, we open the first start-up complex of the grain terminal, which increases the capabilities of transshipment of agricultural goods. It is important as Ukraine annually increases the production of grain crops with the use of new technologies. A yield of 45-50 million tons of grain a year does not surprise anyone. It’s a stable achievement of Ukraine. The lion's share is exported, ensuring the stability of the national monetary unit, the foreign exchange balance, the balance of payments of Ukraine... Therefore the development of the port infrastructure is a matter of national security," Poroshenko said.

He noted that the launch of the grain terminal’s start-up complex was a very important stage of the joint project, which involves M.V. Cargo LLC, Cargill, the EBRD, the International Finance Corporation and the state.
