Poroshenko supports lifting of moratorium on farmland sale

The farmland sale moratorium hinders the development of Ukrainian agricultural market, restrains investors and deprives citizens of the opportunity to exercise their constitutional rights.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said this at the meeting of the National Investment Council, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Unfortunately, I can tell nothing about successes in the land legislation. The current moratorium on farmland sale restrains investments, hinders development of the agricultural market, deprives a significant number of Ukrainian citizens of the opportunity to exercise their constitutional right to dispose of their land property," the Head of State said.

He also reminded that the European Court of Human Rights had delivered a relevant judgment, recognizing the absolute ban on the purchase and sale of agricultural land "a gross violation" of the European Convention on Human Rights. However, this judgment "has not brought down to earth our populists", Poroshenko noted.
