Infrastructure Ministry intends to open 25 airports in Ukraine

Construction of modern airports and modernization of the existing ones is one of the main tasks of the infrastructure development in Ukraine for the near future.

Infrastructure Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Omelyan said this in an interview with Ukrinform.

"Currently, I am trying to convince the government and the parliament to budget for the next year at least UAH 10 billion for the construction of at least 4-5 takeoff runways in different parts of Ukraine. If such funding is provided for at least 3-4 years, we will have 25 full-fledged new airports in Ukraine," the minister said.

The Infrastructure Ministry experts believe that every Ukrainian region should have its airport. The program for the development of regional airports has already been drafted, and the talks with the international investors on the possibility of attracting additional financing, including credit funding, are ongoing, Omelyan noted.
