UN expert: Systemic approach can help eradicate corruption in Ukraine

The systemic approach of investigation, prosecution and effective sanctions can help eradicate corruption in Ukraine.

Juan Pablo Bohoslavsky, the UN independent expert on foreign debt and other related international financial obligations, said this at the briefing, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"I highly appreciate the various efforts made in the field of preventing and combating corruption in recent years. In particular, I mean the law on prevention of corruption, establishment of the National Agency for Prevention of Corruption and the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine. However, systemic corruption can be eradicated through a systemic approach that includes investigation, prosecution and effective sanctions. For this, judicial reform is needed, which will ensure the independence and competence of judges," the expert said.

He noted that more attention should be paid to the precautionary measures to minimize incentives for corruption.
