New food safety control system to start operating in Ukraine on April 4 - Klympush-Tsintsadze

The new system of food safety control will start operating in Ukraine on April 4, 2018, Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Ivanna Klympush-Tsintsadze has stated.

She explained that this refers to the entry into force of the Law of Ukraine "On state control over compliance with the legislation on food, feed, animal by-products, animal health and welfare”. In particular, the new law will create conditions for ensuring better quality and safety of food products for consumers, as well as introduce clear and transparent inspection procedures to minimize corruption risks and promote the development of fair competition, the government’s press service reports.

Also, Klympush-Tsintsadze said that the companies would be checked depending on the degree of possible risks to life and health of people. In addition, under the new law, inspectors of the State Service for Food Safety and Consumer Rights Protection will conduct inspections in line with the verification report, which will be open for public.

The deputy prime minister added that strict sanctions would be imposed for violating the new law. Thus, the amount of fine for legal entities could reach UAH 70,000 - depending on the type of violation.
