U.S. Congress approves provision for $620 million to Ukraine

The House of Representatives of the U.S. Congress has approved the Consolidated Appropriations Act for 2018, which provides for $620.7 million in aid to Ukraine.

The Ukrainian Embassy in the United States informed this on its Facebook page.

"The House of Representatives of the U.S. Congress has approved the Consolidated Appropriations Act for 2018," the report reads.

According to the diplomatic mission, the total amount of aid to Ukraine is estimated at $620.700 million, which exceeds the last year's finance plan.

"The Pentagon allocates $200 million in military and technical assistance to Ukraine, which is by $50 million more than in 2017. These funds will be used to finance U.S projects for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, in particular, such as training of soldiers, provision of military equipment, lethal defensive weapons, other military equipment and services, and logistic support. The assistance also includes intelligence support for Ukraine's armed and security forces," the report reads.

The aid to Ukraine from the U.S. Department of State and related agencies is estimated at $420.7 million, which is $10 million more than the corresponding expenses of the previous year.

Before coming into force, the Consolidated Appropriations Act for 2018 has to be approved by the Senate and signed by the U.S. president.
