Ukraine’s investment potential in renewable energy estimated at EUR 12 bln – Zubko

Ukraine’s investment potential in renewable energy is estimated at EUR 12 billion, which are needed until 2020 to implement the National Renewable Energy Plan.

Vice Prime Minister - Minister of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities of Ukraine Hennadiy Zubko stated this at the Ukrainian-Austrian economic forum in Kyiv on March 14, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“We have adopted several laws that give additional incentives when generating heat from alternative energy sources at utility companies, thereby motivating investments in this direction. We also expect the parliament to adopt a bill on the protection of an investment component of utility companies, received from international financial organizations to implement projects in Ukraine," Zubko said.

He also noted that at present Ukraine’s tariff for solar energy totals 15-16 euro cents per 1 kW.

In addition he said that Ukraine is now seeking to attract investments in renewable energy, because reducing energy consumption, reducing costs for the electricity and heat supply to residential homes is the way to the country's energy independence.
