Cooperation with IMF remains priority for Ukraine – Poroshenko

Cooperation with the International Monetary Fund remains a priority for Ukraine, a dialogue on its terms is underway.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said this at a meeting with representatives of domestic and foreign business, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"I have no doubt that our parliament is able to do everything necessary [for the adoption of the law on an Anti-Corruption Court in the second reading]. Much more difficult issue, in my opinion, is the demand of the Fund to raise gas prices once again. I want to stop any insinuations - our cooperation with the International Monetary Fund is an important priority for us ... We are doing our best to continue this cooperation within the framework of the discussion with our partners from the IMF - this is my priority, this is the priority of the government, this is the priority of the parliament and our entire team," Poroshenko said.

The head of state stressed that there was no doubt about the need for a dialogue with the Fund. At the same time he noted that the adoption of decisions by the Stockholm arbitration court and the change in price parity were among new circumstances that had to be taken into account.

"I am confident that both the Finance Ministry that conducts these negotiations and other negotiators will do their utmost to find a reasonable balance between the need for cooperation with creditors and the interests of Ukrainian households," Poroshenko stressed.
