EU to provide EUR 1 bln in loans for Ukraine - Mogherini

The European Union has decided to provide loans worth EUR 1 billion under a new Macro-Financial Assistance programme for Ukraine.

Vice President of the European Commission - High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini stated this at a meeting with Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman in Kyiv, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

Mogherini stressed it is very important that the Ukrainian economic develop and that’s why the European Commission on March 9 approved a decision on the launch of a new Macro-Financial Assistance programme for Ukraine worth up to EUR 1 billion of loans.

“This assistance is aimed at supporting Ukraine’s economic stability and structural reforms,” she said.

Prime Minister Groysman, in turn, noted that the commitments will be determined by the European Commission. "There are certain decisions needed get this support. It can be sent to the budget of Ukraine, but there are certain commitments we should fulfill," Groysman said.

He also noted that these issues are being discussed with EU representatives.
