Poroshenko initiates trilateral consultations with European Commission over actions of Gazprom

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko initiates the trilateral consultations with the European Commission and Russia in connection with Gazprom's announcement of a reluctance to comply with the decision of the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce.

The President said this at a meeting of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"I would also request to initiate the trilateral consultations within the framework of the Association Agreement. I ask to contact the European Commission and European Commission Vice-President Mr. Sefcovic and inform our partners about the actions [of Gazprom]," the Head of State said.

Poroshenko stressed that if Gazprom did not comply with the decision of the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce, Ukraine would use all the legal instruments in accordance with the New York Convention on the enforcement of foreign arbitral awards.

"The law, the international law, stands with Ukraine like in other conflicts with the Russian Federation," he emphasized.

The Head of State also noted that Gazprom's restrictions or lowering of pressure in the transit gas pipeline was a manifestation of "Russia’s aggressive neglect of the universally recognized norms and rights.
