Consumer inflation in Ukraine accelerates up to 14.1%

In January 2018, consumer inflation in Ukraine accelerated up to 14.1%.

Acting Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine Yakiv Smoliy said this at the briefing, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"In January 2018, consumer inflation accelerated up to 14.1% (on a year-on-year basis) and exceeded the forecast trajectory of the National Bank, published in the August inflation report. According to preliminary estimates, soaring inflation was observed in February," Smoliy said.

As the acting NBU governor stated, the reasons for high inflation rate were unexpected surge in food and services prices, increase in fuel prices and weakening of the hryvnia in previous months.
