Zubko: Local government should implement more infrastructure projects

In January-November 2017, the remaining balance of local budgets grew by over UAH 30 billion to UAH 79.6 billion, Vice Prime Minister – Minister of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities Hennadiy Zubko has said.

“We see that the remaining balance of local budgets grows annually. As of January 1, 2016, they totaled UAH 31 billion, as of January 1, 2017 – UAH 49 billion, and as of November 1, 2017, they amounted to UAH 79.6 billion. Over an incomplete year, the remaining balance grew by UAH 30 billion," Zubko said.

According to the deputy prime minister, of these funds, UAH 65 billion are on treasury accounts, UAH 14.6 billion - on deposits.

Zubko stressed that data on the remaining balance of local budgets indicate that there are resources at the local level. However, their volumes may indicate inefficient use of these funds at the local level.

"First of all, this means the lack of projects. The local government bodies should be more active in developing and implementing infrastructure projects, as there are financial resources for this. The funds directed to local budgets should primarily be used for improving the quality of life in communities of Ukraine,” said Zubko.
