Ukraine not dependent on Russian gas for two years - Poroshenko

Ukraine has not been dependent on Russian natural gas for two years thanks to the energy reform, President Petro Poroshenko has said.

He stated this at the forum of representatives of local communities elected from the Bloc of Petro Poroshenko's Solidarity Party, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"The energy reform today eliminates shadow schemes and ensures the effective competitiveness of our state, on the one hand, and energy independence, on the other hand. For two years, Ukraine has been completely independent of supplies of Russian gas, which brought us to our knees for 24 years," Poroshenko said.

The all-Ukrainian forum of representatives of local communities is held in Kyiv's Ukrainian House. The forum is attended by 115 heads of united territorial communities elected in the first elections on October 29, 2017.
