EU outlines key conditions for creating full-fledged gas hub in Ukraine

The European Union has outlined the key conditions for creating a full-fledged gas hub in Ukraine.

Director of the oil and gas complex department at the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry of Ukraine Oleksandr Lisnichenko announced this following the XXII gas forum in the city of Ljubljana (Republic of Slovenia), the Ministry’s press service reports.

According to Lisnichenko, Europe expects Ukraine to demonopolize the market, launch a new GTS operator, build up extraction, move the point of receipt of Russian gas to the eastern border, expand the north-south corridor and involve the international operators in the management of the domestic GTS to create a full-fledged gas hub in Ukraine.

The EU has expressed an opinion that the Nord Stream project creates a monopoly formation that needs to be tightly regulated as it reduces competition. Europeans are convinced that gas transit should be maintained through Ukraine.
