Ukraine can harvest up to 63 mln tons of grain this year - ministry

The forecast for the gross harvest of grain crops in Ukraine in the 2017/2018 marketing year (MY), depending on weather conditions, is expected at 60.2-63 million tons, the Ukrainian Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry has reported.

"According to preliminary figures from the regions, the forecast for the gross harvest of grain crops in Ukraine in 2017/2018 MY, depending on weather conditions, is expected to stand between 60.2 and 63 million tons," the report says.

Olena Kovaliova, Ukraine's deputy agricultural policy and food minister, said that the country's needs for food grains, for feed purposes and for the processing industry were fully satisfied.

"Exports will exceed domestic consumption," she said.

As of August 4, Ukraine has already collected 30.9 million tons of early grain and leguminous crops from an area of 8.2 million hectares (85% of the 9.7 million hectares).

As reported, according to experts' forecasts, the grain harvest in Ukraine in 2017 will reach 60.4 million tons.
