Vice PM Kistion: 2.7 mln tonnes of coal saved due to emergency measures in Ukrainian energy sector

Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Kistion says that due to temporary emergency measures in the Ukrainian energy sector, from February 17 to July 17, 2017, about 2.7 million tonnes of A grade coal were saved.

He stated this on August 3 at a meeting to discuss problems in the Ukrainian energy sector, the Government’s official website reports.

According to him, Ukraine managed to save A grade coal by increasing the load on hydropower plants, nuclear power plants and thermal power plants that use the gas group coal.

The vice prime minister explained that the reduction in coal reserves at nuclear power plants and thermal power plants in July was projected, as planned repairs at nuclear power plant units are carried out in July – August 2017 with a view to their proper operation during the winter heating period, when there is the largest load on the power system. At the same time, Ukraine continues to accumulate A grade coal, Kistion added.
