Minister Nasalik expects Ukraine to refuse from anthracite coal until the end of 2019

Energy and Coal Industry Minister Ihor Nasalik expects Ukraine will refuse from anthracite coal until the end of 2019, the government’s portal reports.

“The Energy and Coal Industry Ministry has a clear plan for transferring power units to the gas coal group and monitors its compliance, which will allow us to replace about 6 million tonnes of anthracite coal until the end of 2018, and refuse from the coal anthracite group until the end of 2019," said Nasalik.

Speaking about current arrangements for transferring boiler units from anthracite to gas coal, the minister noted that a pilot project for transferring power units No.2 and No.5 of the Zmiivska TPP of PJSC Centrenergo to the coal gas group has been implemented since 2016 to replace the scarce anthracite coal. In May 2017, power unit No. 2 was connected to the network for commissioning, and the reconstruction of power unit No. 5 is under way.

"Our task is not to diversify supplies of anthracite, but to implement its replacement," said Nasalik.
