Five more countries join EU’s sanctions against Crimea occupants

Five more countries have aligned with the decision of the Council of the European Union of 19 June 2017 concerning restrictive measures in response to the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol.

The Declaration by the High Representative on behalf of the European Union on the alignment of certain third countries concerning restrictive measures in response to the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol was released on the Council’s website.

"The Candidate Countries Montenegro and Albania, and the EFTA country Norway, member of the European Economic Area, as well as Ukraine and Georgia align themselves with this Declaration," the statement reads.

All five countries will ensure that their national policies conform to this Council Decision.

The European Union takes note of this commitment and welcomes it.

As reported, the Council of the European Union extended the restrictive measures in response to the illegal annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol by Russia for one year, until June 23, 2018.

In 2014, the EU introduced restrictive measures against Russian economic activity on the territory of the temporarily occupied Crimea and the city of Sevastopol.
