Yeliseyev: Ukraine offers EU an alternative to Nord Stream 2

Ukraine has offered the European Union the possibility of creating an international consortium on the basis of the Ukrainian gas transit system, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Kostiantyn Yeliseyev has said live on Ukraine's Channel 5.

"With regard to energy, we have clearly expressed our position on the inadmissibility of Nord Stream 2. They took our arguments with understanding, and we will continue our dialogue, because without this agreement this project should not [be implemented]. Moreover, we not only criticize and block this politically motivated project, but also put forward proposals. We proposed the possibility of creating an international consortium on the basis of our gas transmission system," Yeliseyev said.

He also added: "The European side has supported the president's initiative to hold a major international conference on the prospects of the Ukrainian GTS at the beginning of next year [in 2018] in order to increase the level of security of both Europe and Ukraine."
