Ukraine ranked fourth among European mushroom producing countries

Ukraine ranked fourth among European countries that produce the largest number of mushrooms, after France, Italy and Spain. At the same time, Ukraine has a much cheaper raw material base for growing mushrooms, and it has potential for expanding production.

Chief instructor at the department of processing and storing agricultural products at Tavrian State Agrotechnical University, Iryna Bandura, stated this at the press conference “Modern Mushroom Growing 2017.”

“Ukraine holds the fourth position in mushroom production in Europe, after France, Italy and Spain. On average, each Ukrainian eat 1.8 kg of mushrooms per year," the expert said.

At the same time, she stressed that Ukraine has good prospects for growing organic mushrooms.

"Ukraine, compared to other countries, has a great raw material base for growing mushrooms. Straw and husk are sold at a rather low price, all seed producers in Ukraine have the needed experience so that to make a good quality mycelium,” Bandura said.
