PM Groysman: Ukraine lost over 60% of gas production over 25 years of independence

Since 2007, Ukraine has lost $53 billion because of unfavorable conditions for gas supplies, as well as a decline in its own gas production sector.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman stated this at a press conference in the Cabinet of Ministers on Tuesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

“The unified price for gas and renewed gas production was set. If this reform were carried out in 2007, we would not have lost $53 billion. These are the losses we incurred because of unfavorable conditions for [gas] supplies and inefficient use of Ukrainian resources,” Groysman said.

According to him, over 25 years of Ukraine’s independence, the production of Ukrainian gas has dropped from 55 billion cubic meters to 20 billion cubic meters.

“Of which 14 billion is the production of the state-owned company,” the prime minister added.
