Agriculture ministry to implement pilot project on voluntary consolidation of agricultural lands in Kyiv and Kherson regions

The Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry with the technical assistance from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is planning to implement a pilot project on voluntary consolidation of agricultural lands belonging to small owners in Kyiv and Kherson regions.

The Ministry's press service has reported this after a visit by FAO mission to Kyiv.

“In the course of the visit by FAO mission to Kyiv, there was approved the development of a comprehensive consolidation plan in two pilot regions,” the report states.

A reminder that FAO assists the Ukrainian Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry in developing a mechanism for voluntary consolidation of agricultural lands, which is expected to resolve the issues caused by the distribution of the land shares of former collective farms between a large number of small owners.

According to the ministry, the absence of large formed land areas is one of special features of Ukraine's agriculture. Fragmented land plots are hardly suitable for effective agricultural production.
