International experts estimate restoration of Donbas economy at $1.5 bn

The recovery of economic activity of eastern regions of Ukraine, which have been affected by the war of aggression, needs $1.5 billion.

Senior economist at the International Centre for Policy Studies Vasyl Povoroznyk said this during the panel discussion "Settlement of the conflict in Donbas: Models and price", an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Currently, the most comprehensive assessment of the costs associated with the recovery of the region is not the assessment of losses. It lies in the assessment of restoration and development of peace in eastern Ukraine and is the common heritage of the European Union, the UN, the World Bank in Ukraine and the Government of Ukraine. In fact, we estimated the costs of restoration of economic activities in the controlled areas in three regions – Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, and Zaporizhzhia. The sum, which is stipulated in the document, is one and a half billion dollars," Povoroznyk said.

In addition, as the expert underscored, the key expenditure item is infrastructure and social services, requiring $1.2 billion.
