European Union to help Ukraine, Russia in negotiations on gas supplies

Vice President of the European Commission for Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič will visit Moscow in the near future in order to hold talks on supply of Russian gas, transit of which goes through Ukrainian territory to Europe.

Spokesperson for the European Commission Jakub Adamowicz said this on Tuesday, an Ukrinform correspondent reports from Brussels.

"Currently, we are planning a visit of Vice President Maroš Šefčovič to Moscow. Of course, one of the tasks of this visit is neutral talks about the supportive role of the European Commission in this trilateral format (if Ukraine and the Russian Federation work for that) to extend the agreement on gas transit," the representative of the European Commission said.

He also stressed that Ukraine's role in this issue was very important for Europe.
