Ukraine Prosecutor General orders to probe utility companies over embezzlement of funds claims

Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yury Lutsenko has ordered the prosecutors to inspect public utilities companies on claims of transferring funds through fictitious businesses, he made a statement while presenting new prosecutor of the Chernihiv region, Ukrinform has reported.

"I’ m writing a letter to all regions, and I inform you verbally that in the near future – 90 days – you have to inspect the operations of all water utilities, heating generating companies, state-owned natural gas enterprises in connection with co-operation with fictitious legal entities through which, according to our estimates, they pocketed from 20 percent to 30 percent of their costs of services. Some regions have reached 40 percent of funds embezzlement," said Lutsenko.

He ordered to analyze the work of utility enterprises and make legal assessment of such violations.
