Ukrainian Prime Minister: Ukraine loses $53 bln because of low gas prices for households

Ukraine annually lost at least $1 billion because of low gas prices for the households. Ukraine sustained losses worth $53 billion over the years of independence.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman said this when presenting the plan of priority tasks of the government for 2016, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Underestimated prices were used to write-off cheap gas for households and resell it at market prices. The annual volume of such losses amounted to about $1 billion. Ukraine lost a total of $53 billion over the years of independence. The huge resource was lost and taken away from Ukrainian people.

According to Groysman, the establishment of a uniform gas price contributes to combating corruption in the gas sector.
