EU’s Hahn: EUR 600 million grant to Ukraine tied to fighting corruption

The European Union is ready to provide the second tranche of assistance to Ukraine worth EUR 600 million, if a number of conditions, particularly regarding the fight against corruption, is fulfilled.

EU Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn said this at a press conference, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"We can provide the second tranche worth EUR 600 million in assistance to Ukraine, if the conditions, particularly regarding the fight against corruption, are fulfilled," he said.

Hahn stressed that the newly-appointed government should first of all focus on fighting corruption. In particular, a reform-oriented Prosecutor-General should be appointed and the Anti-Corruption Agency should launch fully-fledged activity, he said.

Hahn added it was necessary to establish the National Agency of Ukraine for Detection and Administration of Assets Obtained through Corruption and Other Crimes. The EU will help Ukraine subject to these conditions being carried out, Hahn stressed, summing up.
