NBU retains discount rate at 22

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has retained the discount rate at 22%, NBU Governor Valeriya Gontareva has said.

“The board of the National Bank of Ukraine has decided to retain the discount rate at the level of 22% per annum,” Gontareva told a press conference in the central bank, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

According to her, the holding of restrained monetary policy is aimed at preventing unfavorable effects, which internal political instability and turbulence in the global economy could have on the Ukrainian economy.

“The retention of interest rates at the same level is aimed at reducing consumer inflation to 12% by the end of 2016 and to 8% by the end of 2017,” Gontareva said.
