Ukraine has sufficient gas reserves – Energy Minister

In case Ukraine continues buying gas from the EU, it will have sufficient gas reserves to survive the heating season without purchases from the Russian Federation.

Energy and Coal Industry Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Demchyshyn said this during the hour of questions to the Government in the Parliament of Ukraine, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Currently, there are over 16.4 billion cubic meters of gas in the Ukrainian gas storage facilities. It is generally enough to survive the heating season with the supplies from the European Union. Therefore, we have no gas dependence on Russia," the Minister said.

As reported, November 23, Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller told journalists that the Russian Federation had not received pre-payments from Naftogaz of Ukraine and threatened to cut off gas supplies two days later. November 25, Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk ordered to stop buying gas from Russia.
