Ukraine tries to recover $16 bln from Russia - Yatsenyuk

The Ukrainian side filed the lawsuit at the Stockholm arbitration court to try to recover $16 from Russian gas monopoly Gazprom.

Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk said this on the air of a Ukrainian TV channel, the Government portal reports.

"We demand Russia to pay back $16 billion. We consider that Russia fixed an unfair price [for gas] for Ukraine. And we consider that Russia underpays Ukraine for the transit of natural gas via Ukraine’s territory," the Prime Minister noted.

He also reminded about the negotiations with the European Union on the prolongation of gas transit of Russian origin by Ukraine.

"We have raised the issue in front of the European Union to prevent Russia from building South Stream 2 pipeline, which deprives Ukraine of each transit opportunity and revenue worth 2 billion dollars a year," Yatsenyuk said.

Ukraine is waiting for the ruling of the Stockholm arbitration not later than at the end of the first half of 2016.
