Ukraine’s NATO PURL weapons fund exceeds USD 2B – Zelensky
President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Ukraine’s NATO PURL fund, which is used to purchase weapons from the United States, has already surpassed $2 billion.
He made the statement during joint briefing with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, a Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“We already have over $2 billion in the PURL fund for purchasing weapons from the United States. We also expect this initiative to continue. This is the first program that has started following the resumption of U.S. military assistance,” Zelensky said.
As reported by Ukrinform, on August 31, in an evening address, Zelensky noted that Ukraine aims to accumulate at least $1 billion monthly through the PURL weapons procurement program.
PURL is a new mechanism focused on supplying Ukraine with weapons from a list of priority needs. It allows NATO member countries to fund the delivery of U.S. weapons and technologies through voluntary contributions.
