MFA: Finland ready to participate in transfer of tanks to Ukraine

Finland is ready to participate in the transfer of tanks and other heavy weapons to Ukraine.

"We in Finland have provided 12 military packages to Ukraine and we are talking about what else we can do as the European Union as a whole and as Scandinavian countries to help Ukraine today. I know that today there is a discussion about the transfer of tanks and other heavy weapons. We in Finland are ready to participate as much as we can," Minister for Foreign Affairs of Finland Pekka Haavisto said during the presentation of UKRAINE IS YOU project during the World Economic Forum in Davos, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

Haavisto also noted that the war against Ukraine harms not only people but also the environment and creates risks for nuclear safety, which he discussed with IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi.

"We should support Ukraine and think about what is happening, focus on what President Zelensky said in his ten-point peace plan and work together to implement it," the minister added.

As reported, on January 11, President of Poland Andrzej Duda announced that Poland would hand over a company of German Leopard heavy tanks to Ukraine. Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale armed aggression against Ukraine, Poland has sent Ukraine weapons and equipment worth about PLN 10 billion (over $2.2 billion).

On January 12, President of Finland Sauli Niinistö said that Finland could send Leopard tanks to Ukraine under certain conditions.
