Pentagon chief, Kuleba discuss strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities

U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba have discussed further strengthening of Ukraine’s defense capabilities.

According to the Ukrainian MFA’s website, the meeting took place as part of Kuleba’s official visit to Washington.

In particular, the U.S. Secretary of Defense reaffirmed unwavering U.S. support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, including efforts by the United States to further increase military and technical cooperation with Ukraine.

In turn, Kuleba thanked the United States for its support for Ukraine and assistance provided to strengthen the Ukrainian Armed Forces.

In addition, the parties discussed practical steps to protect Ukraine, including the development of cooperation in the air and missile defense. Kuleba informed the U.S. Secretary of Defense about the process of establishing territorial defense in Ukraine and expressed hope for close cooperation for its development.

The parties agreed to continue consultations and contacts at the highest military and political level.

As reported, U.S. President Joe Biden and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba at a meeting in Washington discussed the need for tightening sanctions against the Russian Federation.
