Naval bases will help us a lot, Zelensky tells Johnson

An independent navy will protect Ukraine’s shores and waters.

"The issue of the developed Ukrainian navy is a matter of British support for Ukraine, namely the construction of our fleet. I understand that this is not the present, it will not unblock and protect us in the Black Sea today and will not unblock the Black Sea and the Sea of Azov coasts. But, nevertheless, it is a powerful step: an independent fleet that will really protect our shores and defend the waters," President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said at a joint briefing with Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson after the talks in Kyiv on February 1, answering questions from Ukrinform.

In this context, the President thanked the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. "We started this cooperation a couple of years ago, and we have now come to practical implementation. The process includes naval bases, etc. I think this will help us a lot," Zelensky said.

As reported, Ukraine plans to implement a major navy construction program by 2035.
