OSCE SMM records over 320 ceasefire violations in east Ukraine over weekend

Between the evenings of January 21 and 23, the OSCE SMM recorded 132 ceasefire violations in Donetsk region and 191 ceasefire violations in Luhansk region.

“In Donetsk region, between the evenings of January 21 and 23, the SMM recorded 132 ceasefire violations, including 19 undetermined explosions,” reads the OSCE SMM daily report 16/2022 issued on January 24, 2022.

The majority of ceasefire violations occurred in areas north of Shyrokyne (government-controlled, 100km south of Donetsk).

In the previous reporting period, the Mission recorded 75 ceasefire violations in the region, some of which also occurred near Shyrokyne.

“In Luhansk region, between the evenings of 21 and 23 January, the SMM recorded 191 ceasefire violations, including 34 undetermined explosions,” the OSCE SMM reports.

The majority of ceasefire violations occurred in areas north and west of the disengagement area near Zolote (government-controlled, 60km west of Luhansk) and north-east of Popasna (government-controlled, 69km west of Luhansk).

As noted, 45 of the ceasefire violations, heard in an area north-west of Shymshynivka (non-government-controlled, 27km south-west of Luhansk), were assessed as a live-fire training exercise outside the security zone.

In the previous reporting period, the Mission recorded 156 ceasefire violations in the region, almost all of which occurred in areas close to the disengagement area near Zolote.
