Ukrainian military get modernized attack helicopters

Konotop Aircraft Repair Plant Aviakon, part of Ukraine's state defense conglomerate Ukroboronprom, has handed over a batch of repaired and serially modernized Mi-24PU1 helicopters to the army aviation of the Ukrainian Ground Forces, Ukroboronprom's press service has reported.

The transfer of Mi-24PU1 helicopters to the Ukrainian military took place as part of the state defense order, the report said.

Aviakon specialists installed modernized Ukrainian-made weapon systems and aiming devices, MANPADS protection systems and engines with improved characteristics.

In addition, for the first time, helicopters are equipped soft fuel tanks and propeller blades made in Ukraine.

"After the technical acceptance and performance of demonstration flights conducted by the crews of the army aviation, the modernized helicopters flew to their permanent base and began to perform combat missions," Ukroboronprom added.

The Mi-24PU1 is designed to destroy armored vehicles, increase the mobility of ground forces and provide them with fire support on the battlefield.

Due to modernization, these machines can be used around the clock. They meet modern requirements and global helicopter construction trends and the development of tactics of military aviation.
