Kyiv Armored Vehicle Factory (AVF), part of the state defense conglomerate Ukroboronprom, continues to supply upgraded T-72 main battle tanks (MBTs) to the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Defense Express has reported.

According to the report, it emerged on April 5 this year that Kyiv AVF had delivered the second batch of three T-72s to Ukraine's military this year. The previous batch comprised of five T-72s, upgraded and repaired, and was accepted by the customer in early March of this year.

The first battalion of 31 upgraded T-72 MBTs was delivered in three increments in January 2020 (10 + 15 vehicles) and early March 2020 (6 vehicles).

The vehicle received improved firing capabilities by adding night vision equipment with third-generation electro optical converters and the 1K13 night vision sighting system enabling night firing with the Luch Design Office's Kombat (125mm gun-fired laser-guided) missile, which is capable of penetrating 550 mm of RHA behind explosive reactive armor (ERA).

Kyiv AVF was not the only company to supply the Ukrainian Armed Forces with repaired and upgraded armored vehicles so far in 2021.

Kharkiv AVF delivered nine T-64 tanks and Lviv AVF delivered a combined total of more than ten vehicles (T-64 and T-72 tanks) earlier in 2021.
