Taran thanks Danish partners for advisory assistance in implementing defense reform

Minister of Defense of Ukraine Andrii Taran thanked the Kingdom of Denmark for the consultative and advisory assistance provided to the ministry and the Ukrainian army in fulfilling the tasks of defense reform.

This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Defense.

"On March 24, Minister of Defense of Ukraine Andrii Taran met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Denmark to Ukraine Ole Egberg Mikkelsen," the report reads.

The event was also attended by Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine for European Integration Anatoliy Petrenko and Defense Attaché at the Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark in Ukraine, Captain Felix Ebbestad.

Taran informed the representatives of the Danish Embassy about the ambitious reform program of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. In this process, according to the minister, one of the important factors is the establishment of mechanisms for democratic civilian control over the military sector, the implementation of which will make the irreversible transformation of the domestic defense sector in line with the best practices of NATO member states.

The minister stressed that the NATO Enhanced Opportunities Partner status granted to Ukraine in June last year provides for the introduction of new mechanisms for cooperation with both NATO and its member states.

In turn, Ole Egberg Mikkelsen reaffirmed the Kingdom of Denmark's policy of supporting Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, and expressed support for Ukraine's efforts to strengthen the country's defense capabilities, adopt Euro-Atlantic approaches and standards, and implement them in the Armed Forces.

The parties discussed the state and prospects for the development of bilateral defense cooperation, in particular, in the military and military-technical spheres, as well as the prospects for its further deepening between the states.

Taran thanked the Danish partners for the consultative and advisory assistance provided to the ministry and the Ukrainian army by the Kingdom of Denmark in carrying out the tasks of defense reform and strengthening the institutional capacity of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine. He commended the level of training of servicemen and units by instructors of the Armed Forces of the Kingdom of Denmark as part of the ORBITAL and UNIFIER multinational training missions in Ukraine.

The minister also expressed his readiness to hold a video conference with Minister of Defense of Denmark Trine Bramsen in the near future, during which the parties will be able to discuss in detail areas of mutually beneficial cooperation.
