OSCE names four hotspots in Donbas
About 76% of all recorded ceasefire violations in eastern Ukraine in 2020 took place in four hotspots along the contact line.
This was said in a report of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission to Ukraine entitled "Trends and Observations in 2020," Ukrinform reports.
"Most of the armed violence recorded in 2020 was concentrated in four hotspots along the contact line, which accounted for about 76% of all recorded ceasefire violations," the report reads.
According to the Mission, the hotspots were Popasna-Zolote-Pervomaisk area; Avdiivka-Yasynuvata-Donetsk airport area; areas east and north-east of Mariupol; and areas south-west, south and south-east of Svitlodarsk.
In 2020, the number of ceasefire violations recorded along the contact line decreased by 55% compared with 2019. The number of observed explosions attributable to weapons that should have been withdrawn according to the Minsk Agreements decreased by 5% compared with 2019.
A sharp decrease in kinetic activity was observed after July 27, 2020, which marks the enaction of the additional measures to strengthen the ceasefire. The daily average of ceasefire violations fell almost twenty-fold after that day (623 to 23 respectively).
