Navy Commander Neizhpapa discusses further cooperation with U.S. Embassy delegation

Representatives of the Ukrainian Navy Command met with a delegation of the United States Embassy in Ukraine to discuss further close cooperation between the U.S. Navy and the Ukrainian Navy.

This was reported by the press service of the Ukrainian Navy on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

“During the meeting [in Odesa], the parties discussed issues of further cooperation for the development of the Ukrainian marines. The sides agreed to discuss a number of issues of promoting the development of infrastructure and training of the Ukrainian Navy personnel. There will be a meeting with representatives of the relevant structures of the fleet in certain areas of the Navy, including naval aviation and marines. They will also visit facilities and units of the national Navy,” the message says.

In turn, Commander of the Ukrainian Navy, Rear Admiral Oleksiy Neizhpapa noted that interaction and partnership between the navies of the two countries are of strategic importance and are gradually expanding.

“Every year we increase the number of joint events. We are grateful for the enhanced material and technical assistance and support of the 6th Fleet of the U.S. Navy, which is permanently in the Black Sea and maintains security and stability in the Black Sea region,” the press service quotes the commander.

As Ukrinform reported, on January 15, the United States delivered 20 new high mobility multipurpose wheeled vehicles (Humvees) to the Land Forces of Ukraine, as well as 84 more boats for the Navy.

On December 11, 2020, the U.S. Senate by an overwhelming majority (84-13) and on December 8, 2020, the U.S. House of Representatives (335-78) approved the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2021 (NDAA 2021). The document provides for the allocation of $250 million in security assistance to Ukraine, including $75 million for the purchase of lethal weapons for the Armed Forces, which is $25 million more than in 2020.
