Ukrainian peacekeepers leave for Kosovo

Another rotation of Ukrainian peacekeepers took off from Kyiv's Boryspil Airport to Pristina International Airport on December 14, the media liaisons office of the Command of the Ukrainian Ground Forces has reported on Facebook.

According to the report, the Ukrainian contingent will continue the work of their predecessors.

"Each of the newly arrived peacekeepers has experience of service in the Anti-Terrorist Operation/Joint Forces Operation, good command of a foreign language, excellent physical training and professional skills," the report reads.

The rotation of troops in Kosovo will last six months. Before being sent to Kosovo, all servicemen received all the necessary vaccines, underwent special isolation and got tested for COVID-19.

In addition, all servicemen have been provided with personal protective equipment during the rotation.

The Ukrainian contingent in Kosovo has been operating in Kosovo and Metohija since September 1, 1999. At the beginning of the operation, the Polish-Ukrainian peacekeeping battalion UkrPolbat was created, but then the Ukrainian part of the battalion was reorganized into an independent unit - the National Contingent in Kosovo. About 1,300 Ukrainian soldiers have been on the peacekeeping service since then, five of them killed and 26 were wounded. The main tasks of the military are demining, border protection, engineering and construction work. The work of Ukrainian servicemen was highly praised by the leadership of the North Atlantic Alliance and the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
