Yermak: Ukraine negotiating 3-5 new disengagement areas in Donbas

Ukraine is approaching an agreement with Russian-backed militants on three-five areas for the disengagement of forces and hardware in Donbas.

“Today we are very close to agreeing on three and maybe five new sections [for the disengagement of forces],” Head of the President’s Office Andriy Yermak said in an interview with Reuters.

He added that Ukraine and the separatists would agree at least three new areas of troop disengagement in selected hotspots.

As Ukrinform reported, on August 6, President Volodymyr Zelensky visited the frontline positions of the Ukrainian military in the Joint Forces Operation (JFO) area in Donbas and inspected compliance with a comprehensive ceasefire that started on July 27.

An agreement to agree on three new "humanitarian" areas for further disengagement of forces in Donbas was reached during the Normandy format summit in Paris at the end of 2019.
