Yermak: Issue of new disengagement areas remains open

The issue of new disengagement areas along the contact line in Donetsk and Luhansk regions is being discussed but still remains open.

Head of President’s Office Andriy Yermak said this to journalists, commenting on results of the meeting of political advisers to the leaders of Normandy format countries, which took place in Berlin on July 3, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

According to Yermak, "unfortunately, the issue of disengagement areas is still open. Many issues have already been agreed upon, but there is no final decision."

He also said that "[the parties] are very close to agreeing on a mine action plan. Indeed, a lot of time has been spent on it, but today we are very close to the result."

As reported, the agreement on coordination of three new "humanitarian" areas for further disengagement of forces in Donbas was reached during the Normandy format summit in Paris in December 2019.
